Positive Health Classification Framework
Digital PHCF · Prototype 0.1

Build a positive-health profile without collapsing it into a score.

A first digital implementation of the PHCF Universal Core. It organises what is present, available, demonstrated and supported while keeping diagnosis, risk, functioning, quality of life and formulation separate.

Prototype status PHCF Version 0.1 is a research framework. The digital tool does not create a diagnosis, validated score or evidence-based threshold. It is a structured recording prototype for testing the architecture and workflow.

Context

Start with context, not a score.

The source clinical classification and ordinary clinical assessment remain external to PHCF. Use the fields below only to orient the profile. Avoid identifiable information on a public website.

Do not enter a name, date of birth, address or other identifying information.
Diagnosis or other recognised clinical classification is not generated by PHCF.
01 / State

Current Positive Health State

What positive mental health is being experienced now?

Current Positive Health State concerns the positive-health experience evident at the time of assessment. It is not inferred from low symptoms, high functioning or past resilience.

PHCF 01A

Positive self-experience

Current self-acceptance, coherence and a sense of personal legitimacy without requiring consistently positive self-evaluation.

Prototype rule - record evidence before interpretation.
PHCF 01B

Engagement and vitality

Meaningful psychological involvement in life and access to sufficient energy or interest for personally valued experiences.

Boundary - participation may be meaningful even when occupational functioning is limited.
PHCF 01C

Belonging and connection

The current experience of meaningful interpersonal, social, cultural or community connection.

Boundary - network size is not a proxy for belonging.
PHCF 01D

Meaning and valued direction

The current experience of personally significant values, purposes, commitments or directions.

Principle - the person remains the principal authority on what is valued.
02 / Capacity

Positive Health Capacities

What adaptive psychological capabilities appear available or potentially mobilisable?

Capacities are not equivalent to current wellbeing. A person may be highly distressed while retaining substantial capability for adaptive action.

PHCF 02A

Agency and self-direction

Capacity to make choices, act toward personally meaningful goals and participate in decisions affecting care and life.

Boundary - receiving assistance does not automatically imply low agency.
PHCF 02B

Adaptive regulation

Capacity to notice, tolerate and modify emotional or behavioural responses when existing strategies are ineffective.

PHCF 02C

Psychological flexibility

Capacity to respond flexibly to difficult internal experiences and changing demands without rigid behavioural control.

PHCF 02D

Relational capacity

Capacity to form, use, maintain or repair relationships in ways that can support wellbeing, treatment or recovery.

Boundary - capacity is different from whether supportive people are currently available.
PHCF 02E

Meaning and identity capacity

Capacity to sustain or reconstruct a coherent sense of self, meaning and valued direction during change or illness.

PHCF 02F

Recovery and self-management capacity

Capacity to recognise changes in mental health, seek help, use strategies, mobilise support and participate in ongoing management.

Boundary - capacity does not establish symptom remission or low risk.
03 / Adaptation

Demonstrated Adaptation

What has the person's history shown they have been able to mobilise under meaningful challenge?

Demonstrated Adaptation uses behavioural and longitudinal evidence. It should not be inferred merely from exposure to adversity or from a general label such as resilient.

PHCF 03A

Strategy development and change

Evidence that the person developed, revised or replaced strategies in response to meaningful challenge.

PHCF 03B

Help seeking and support mobilisation

Historical evidence of recognising need, seeking assistance or activating useful support under challenge.

PHCF 03C

Recovery following deterioration or disruption

Evidence of restoration, reorganisation or re-engagement following a significant deterioration, loss or disruption.

PHCF 03D

Persistence and restoration of valued activity

Evidence that personally valued activity or commitments were maintained, adapted or restored despite meaningful challenge.

Safeguard - surviving adversity does not itself establish successful adaptation.
04 / Ecology

Protective Resource Ecology

What resources exist within and around the person, and are they available, accessible, usable or mobilised?

A resource should not be labelled protective merely because it exists. The prototype therefore separates existence from accessibility, usability and mobilisation.

Personal resources

Knowledge, skills, routines, tools and personally held resources not already captured as psychological capacities.

Relational resources

Family, friends, peers, carers or other relationships that may provide meaningful support.

Cultural resources

Cultural identity, practices, language, spirituality, kinship or other culturally meaningful supports.

Community resources

Community, educational, occupational, recreational, faith or peer networks relevant to positive health or recovery.

Material resources

Housing, income, transport, technology and other practical resources relevant to maintaining or restoring health.

Structural resources

Systems, rights, service structures, accommodations and broader conditions that enable or constrain access to support.

Treatment and service resources

Clinical care, continuity, therapeutic relationships, crisis pathways and other treatment-related supports.

Environmental resources

Physical, digital or place-based conditions that may support safety, participation, restoration or recovery.

Separate constructFunctioning

Activities and participation remain separately assessed and should not determine a PHCF classification.

Separate constructQuality of life

The person's evaluation of life remains important but is not treated as equivalent to positive-health capacity.

Separate clinical taskRisk and formulation

Strong positive-health evidence must never be used to infer low symptom severity, low risk or reduced need for care.

Profile

Draft PHCF profile

The profile below is generated from what has been recorded on the page. It is descriptive. It does not calculate an overall score or apply validated classification thresholds.

Positive Health Classification Framework

Digital developmental profile · Prototype 0.1

Not a validated classification
Interpretive boundary - high positive-health capacity does not establish the absence of mental disorder, low symptom severity, low clinical risk or reduced need for treatment. Limited positive-health evidence does not establish psychopathology or diminished personal worth.
